ZTE wants a piece of that Galaxy Note market

Chinese handset maker ZTE wants to get in on some of the emerging phone/tablet hybrid market that Samsung seems to own with the Galaxy Note.  Speaking with reporters, ZTE's head of handset strategy, Lv Qianhao, recently indicated that they would be looking to the combination experience for a pair future products.

"We want to come up with the next generation of a Galaxy Note-type product - a combo product of handsets and tablets."

As the company pushes forward with plans to become a top-three worldwide player in the industry, ZTE will have to step out from the shadows and become a recognizable brand name.  A big part of that strategy will include a heavier U.S. presence.  We've already seen them drop a number of devices here over the last couple of months, including the Optik tablet and Fury smartphone.  If they can bring some of that high end Era power to our local carriers then they stand as good as chance as anyone else in the ever-evolving Android space.  While Samsung, Motorola, and HTC command a chunk of the market, other companies like ZTE and Huawei are inches from breakout success.

Would you consider picking up one of ZTE's phone/tablet hybrid devices for yourself?  Why or why not?

ZTE Honeycomb Tablet Pays A Visit to FCC, Sprint or Bust?

ZTE tablets have been popping up left and right lately, from the ZTE T98 to the Smart Tab 7, and we've got another one to add to the list: the ZTE V55. It just passed through the FCC, and it would appear that the tablet is headed for Sprint. Provided they don't make any changes before its release, the V55 will feature:

  • 10.1-inch , 1280 x 800 display
  • an unknown version of Honeycomb
  • 1.2GHz processor (our best guess is dual-core, but don't quote us on that)
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.

Obviously, there's not much to go on as of yet. It's interesting that at the moment, the V55 won't sport any 4G capabilities, which might be a huge letdown for many. One has to wonder why Sprint (or perhaps ZTE) chose to make it a 3G device, and not take advantage of Sprint's WiMax network. More on this as it develops.

So is anyone impressed by the ZTE V55 so far? Who's disappointed that it's not a 4G tablet? Sound off in the comments below!

Could the ZTE T98 Arrive as First Tegra 3 Tablet?

A new 7-inch tablet from ZTE has surfaced in China bearing some rather interesting details. Take a look at that image up there at the top; It's the first tablet found running a Tegra 3 chipset. Specifications for this guy include a 1280x800 resolution 7-inch display, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 5-megapixel camera, and 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Oh... and a quad-core 1.5Ghz processor!

Although a release date has not been whispered yet, Hong Kong and Taiwan will be among the first markets to receive this T98 tablet. We'll most likely not see the tablet hit the United States anytime soon as ZTE has next to zero presence. Then again, a Smart Tab 7 was recently found in the FCC. Maybe they're ready to take the US by storm! Additional specifications for the T98 include Android 3.2, a 4,000 mAh battery, and an overall thickness of 11.5mm.

Our gut tells us that we'll see something out of Motorola, Samsung, or HTC as the first Tegra 3 tablet. It's tough to imagine the bigger guys getting scooped by a player like ZTE.

ZTE Smart Tab 7 Spied Loitering at FCC

A ZTE Smart Tab 7 was recently found hanging out in the FCC, giving us an early hint at yet another Android tablet headed for the United States.  Very little is known about the device save for its support for Wi-Fi, 3G, and Bluetooth connectivity however the name points to a 7-inch display.  As some of you may know, Vodafone announced a Smart Tab 7 and Smart Tab 10 at IFA so it's very possible that this is going to be a variation of the same device, only for U.S. consumers.

The image tied to the FCC document appears to show a rear camera, which would not come as much of a surprise.  The Google logo on the back is a welcome sight as it indicates support for the Android Market and other Google applications.

Would you consider a tablet from ZTE or are you preferential to bigger players like Samsung and Motorola?
