Thor: The Dark World, Marvel’s latest superhero movie, will be opening next week, so it is only fitting that a companion app has been released. Thor: TDW – The Official Game hit Google Play today, letting players take on the forces of Malekith and the Dark Elves in the action-arcade game with RPG elements.
As Thor you can fight alongside a variety of other Asgardian characters, upgrade your super abilities, fight through a variety of missions, and take on the hordes of villains. Up to ten hammers and armor sets are available to be unlocked and upgraded along with a variety of super skills. Thor: TDW includes a leaderboard function so you can see how you do against the world or just your friends. However, no multi-player option is available. Check out some screenshots and the official launch trailer below. You can use the download links if you want to give Thor: TDW a try.
It will be gaming season soon and Marvel won’t be missing out on the chance to expand its presence in the fast-growing mobile gaming market. At the New York Comic Convention, the comics publisher announced two games that will soon be making an appearance on Android.
People will probably be more familiar with Marvel: Avengers Alliance, a turn-based social network game that has been quite popular on Facebook. The game will soon be updated to incorporate themes and characters from the upcoming “Thor: The Dark World” film. But probably of more interest is the announcement that the game will finally be heading towards Android next month. Previously, the mobile version of the game has only been available on iOS.
Marvel has also announced a relatively new title called “Marvel Run Jump Smash!” The game is basically a side-scrolling runner that should be familiar to many Android gamers. The game, which according to Marvel is quite a hit in Korea, stars popular Marvel characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, with more to come. Hit the trailer below to watch your favorite Avengers in all their running and tumbling and cutesy glory.
Marvel: Avengers Alliance is scheduled to hit Google Play Store on November 21 and will probably be available for free just like the iOS versions. There is, however, no set date for the launch of Marvel Run Jump Smash! but it should probably happen around the same time.
The new Marvel Comic giveaway promises to offer comic fans over 700 free #1 digital issues, all for free, on the condition that they register beforehand.
In order to get your hands on all of this comic book extravaganza, you just need to sign up (Marvel registration link below), and then wait for further instructions from the company. Invitations will be getting served in batches, so that the company’s servers don’t get jammed like the last time.
Of course, you’ll need Marvel’s app in order to read the comics, which is available as a free download in the Google Play Store (and it’s most certainly not getting kicked out of there anytime soon).
One more thing, if you’re planning to get your share of the Marvel Comics giveaway: registrations are open until 11:59 PM ET on April 9, 2013, so you’ll need to hurry up! Invitations are coming after April 11, and Marvel says that you needn’t worry if it takes a bit, since it’s trying to offer the best possible experience. Once the invite gets to you, you’ll have 48 hours to download your comics. Better to get your comics later, than not to get them at all, isn’t it?
Are you a Marvel Comics fan? Will you take advantage of the giveaway?
Comic book fans can rejoice with a very cool promotion going on until March 13th at 4 AM GMT. By downloading the Comixology app available on Android for both tablets and smartphones, you can get access to 700 Marvel Comics for free. It includes very early issues of Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, Wolverine, Captain America, and many more. There are many Marvel Now issues from the past several months and comics can also be viewed from a web browser.
Marvel announced the promotion at SXSW (South By Southwest) in Austin, Texas as well as its new subscription service, Marvel Unlimited. The service gives access to over 13,000 comics for $9.99 per month and is currently only available on iOS with an Android app coming soon. What makes Comixology different from Marvel Unlimited is that comics don’t hit the app until six months after publication, and you have to pay so much per comic.
The first episode of Avengers Initiative is still relatively young, but that isn’t stopping about Marvel Games from talking about what will be going down in episode two. Today we’re finding out that you’ll be able to play as Captain America in episode two, though unfortunately we don’t have a release date for the episode just yet. Still, the news that Captain America is featured in the next episode should be enough to get many players excited.
Captain America’s segment of the story will have him tracking down a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D., so obviously you won’t be able to smash everything in sight like you did with the Hulk. We’re not sure how much gameplay will change between the Hulk and Captain America episodes, but there are enough differences between the two heroes that we can’t imagine both will play exactly the same.
As stated above, there’s no word on when episode two will be going live (though it should be available soon), but it does have a price. Marvel will be selling the next Avengers Initiative episode for 10,000 ISO-8, which is the in-game currency for the title. If you don’t want to take the time to earn that much in-game money, you can always buy that amount for $0.99 and unlock the new content immediately. It’s nice that Marvel is letting players pay with in-game currency, as it means that some players will be able to unlock Captain America’s new episode without ever paying any real money.
Those who are still playing Hulk’s episode are getting some goodies too, with everybody’s favorite big green superhero getting a handful of new costumes to use in-game. More episodes will follow the one that adds Captain America, with these upcoming episodes adding the likes of Iron Man and Thor to the game. It looks like Marvel will be supporting Avengers Initiative for a while yet, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, you can grab it from the Google Play Store for $4.99 [download link].
Marvel fans, get ready for some Hulk smash. Earlier today the brand new Avengers Initiative game went live on Google Play, and it’s quite amazing. Though this game is a blast and works with multiple high-powered Android smartphones and tablets, those with a Tegra 3 device will really enjoy all that Marvel has to offer. Below we have some screenshots and video so you know what to expect from this awesome $4.99 game.
This is the first episode of what surely will be more to come, and here you get to enjoy the awesome character The Hulk. I’m looking forward to this level of perfection with an IronMan game myself. Marvel promises multiple updates, and episode-like release plans for multiple characters. Oh and the graphics and gameplay are epic. Simply put, you play as the Hulk and do multiple swipes to destroy — everything!
What you see above is us enjoying this awesome new Android game on the NVIDIA Tegra 3 powered Transformer Prime. Obviously the game plays great with tons of powerful devices but users with a Prime or the Nexus 7 will really get to enjoy this game to another level. All the details are crisp, vibrant, and stunning with excellent textures and lighting. Watching your enemies damage grow as you Hulk smash him to pieces is quite fun.
As you can see from our video above the gameplay is dead simple and looks amazing on a mobile device. Marvel and NVIDIA have teamed up to make this an awesome experience for Tegra devices, and it clearly shows. Currently the brand new game is listed at $4.99 which Marvel says is an introductory price. While that might seem high you’ll be happy to know more content is coming soon. This game is set to be a gift that keeps on giving. They called it “episodic content” updates, which will be free. We can expect awesome playable characters like Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man sometime next year. So while the price is high, in the end it will be very much worth it for gamers and Avengers fans. Get it now from the Google Play Store link above or at the NVIDIA TegraZone.
If you have ever muttered to yourself, “HULK SMASH!” Marvel may have a new game right up your alley. Demonstrating the influence of smartphones and tablets, Marvel is releasing Avengers Initiative as a title specifically developed for touchscreen devices. This is the first of four planned titles in the series, this one giving players the opportunity to play as the Hulk.
The back story involves several monsters and criminals breaking free from a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility. The Hulk is recruited to track down as many of the bad guys as he can while the rest of the Avengers are assembled. Marvel indicates the combat system is completely gesture based with high definition visuals. Players can customize their Hulk character and access on-line features like live events and new character reveals. Marvel has created a new service called Marvel XP that will let players track progress, receive achievement rewards, unlock badges and other character content. The system is also supposed to work across multiple games like the Avengers Alliance game on Facebook.
Avengers Initiative requires Android 4.0 or better and Marvel lists about 18 devices the title will work on. If you have a Tegra powered device, Marvel has included some TegraZone enhancements like better character textures, realistic clothing, life-like environments, and Iso-8 effects.
Avengers Initiative is available in the Google Play store using one of the links below for $6.99. Who is ready to show they are the strongest there is?
Get ready, because Marvel’s Avengers are coming to your Android device, in card form anyway. Trading Card Game (TCG) Marvel War of Heroes is available for download in the Google Play Store as of Thursday.
The game, which features Marvel characters like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America, may seem a little odd at first if you’ve never played a TCG before. The meat of the game lies not in battling it out, but in constructing your deck of cards. The cards feature art by celebrated Marvel artists like Aleksi Briclot, Simon Bisley and Francesco Mattina.
Unlike some other TCGs, Marvel War of Heroes actually has a story mode to play through. As an Agent for S.H.E.I.L.D., you are tasked with taking down a group of Super Villains who are using something called iso-8 to gain power. You’ll be able to team up with other players to battle more powerful enemies and figure out what exactly iso-8 is.
The game is available for Android version 2.1 and up, and is a free download in the Google Play Store.
Have you had a chance to try Marvel War of Heroes yet? What do you think of the game so far?
Trading Card Games such as Rage of Bahamut have been extremely popular with Android users. Now the comic book giant Marvel, responsible for icons such as Spiderman and the recently revived Avengers series, have decided to cut themselves a piece of the pie with the recently released Marvel War of Heroes. Made by the same developers as the aforementioned Rage of Bahamut, expect it to have extremely strategic and open gameplay that everyone from the die hard TCG player to the 7-year old Iron Man fanatic can enjoy.
Published by Mobage games, it has a social aspect ingrained into its very DNA, allowing players to play each other, as well as participate in a cooperative campaign across the internet. Complete with all the Facebook and Twitter connectivity you could dream for, this is a game made for groups of friends to play and challenge each other. The game is currently out and early user reviews are proclaiming it the best game since Rage of Bahamut and many users are willing to share promo codes for exclusive and rare cards. With a free price tag, I suggest anyone who’s into TCGs to pick this one up for some on-the-go action. Hit the break for the download links.
