Another teaser video from Samsung avows “something big is coming” at the start of the IFA trade show in Berlin on September 1st. These videos are creating more questions rather than answers for what we can expect.
Simply put, the first of the two clips gives us images of some young and beautiful people smiling with wind-blown hair on the peaceful oceanside. The second shows more young and beautiful people, this time with a dose of hip and a splash of cool, as they smile and walk around town carrying and using glowing handsets and tablet devices.
Some are buzzing that one of the glowing mystery devices could be Samsung’s rumored Android Honeycomb Galaxy Tab which features a 7-inch Super AMOLED screen (1024×600 resolution), 3-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front facing cam for video chat. Another theory is that it might be a phone since “glowing handsets” appear in the videos.
What do you think the BIG announcement is? Leave us a comment and check out both videos after the break.
The big event in Berlin is soon approaching, IFA 2011 for all your tech desires – and Samsung is gonna be there with something big! What we’ve seen so far is one leaked trailer for this “Unpacked II” event, it inspiring quite a few guesses surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S II and what new version this Unpacked might reveal. Of course there’s no guarantee that we know what they’ll be revealing at all at the moment, especially since this Unpacked doesn’t have quite as obvious a tagline as the one we attended at CTIA 2011 which was “What’s your Tab Life?”
This video, the second one revealed but very possibly the first Samsung WANTED to have revealed, as the first was certainly leaked, we see a summer sky, shiny trees, sunlight all around, waves washing in from a lovely ocean, two people: one a lady moving in slow motion with wind blowing her hair, another a fellow with hair blowing as well, then the line “Sketches of Your Desire.” This line comes before “Something Big is Coming”, both of these sets of words appearing in the other video we’ve seen as well. Have a look at both here:
Here’s the second video first:
Then the first video next:
The first time we saw an Unpacked event this year it was at CTIA 2011 and we were given a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Tab 8.9 which we’d seen up close and personal the night before. What we’re still thinking might be thinking is going on here is a Samsung Galaxy S II upgrade of some sort, maybe a 4.5-inch screen like the Infuse 4G, maybe some sort of mega-announcement we can’t even guess! What do you think?
Details of Sony’s upcoming NEX-7 mirrorless compact camera has been leaked. Sony NEX-7 will allegedly carry a 24.3 megapixel Exmor sensor, the camera will also feature an OLED viewfinder and a 3-inch TruBlack LCD screen. Other features will include Full HD 1080p video recording at 24 FPS, a magnesium alloy body, integrated flash. With all these details leaked, Sony will most likely make an official announcement soon. Until then, you can check out a specifications list after the break.
If you have even the slightest idea as to what rooting your Android device means, or what a custom ROM is, then I can bet you probably know what CyanogenMod is. CyanogenMod is a fully modified version of Google’s Android OS. This custom ROM can be flashed to a very long list of devices, and is hands down one of the most popular custom ROM’s available today.
We’ve all been hearing and reading about the latest news of Steve Kondik (cyanogen) being hired by Samsung. And I don’t blame Samsung for wanting to get their hands on the proven skills of the founder of CyanogenMod. So due to this latest development, there looks to be plenty of rumors and much speculation as to the fate of CyanogenMod.
We have seen both the SE Xperia Play and the Xperia Arc more than a few times. Today they’ve both been spotted in different flavors than we are used to. First off is the Xperia Play wearing a fancy Orange outfit and then the Xperia Arc is dress in White. These pictures are coming out of a SE launch conference in Asia so they could just be special devices, or we might see these flavors hit the shelves in select regions.
Last time we saw the Xperia Arc it was unlocked and for sale in the US but only with Blue or Silver color options, but now photos are showing they might also have a White model for those in need. While these aren’t anything special or new it’s always fun to see new colors. Just think, an Orange Xperia Play rocking CM7 sounds nice right?
More details on both of these phones can be seen over on the Xperia Blog who is also covering the conference where these phones were spotted. While the Orange colored Play might just be a unique device someone brought to the show we did see a Xperia Play with HDMI-Out a few months ago back in June, so it’s pretty possible they’ve still been making changes although that was a developer model. Either way these are fun and new, so thought we’d share. Enjoy your weekend!
Say hello to the first official press shots of the LG Optimus Sol (aka LG Victor E730). The Optimus Sol was first spotted in this leaked roadmap including an LG Prada remake running Android. While we are still searching for more details it should be a decent little mid-range offering although someone should probably tell LG they forgot the LED flash. Who does that these days?
Even more recently we saw the Optimus Sol on video and you can see that here. It looks a bit like an iPhone and the Samsung Vibrant made a baby if you ask me. While the Optimus Sol we are seeing now looks quite a bit different than the original leak we are left wondering if the internal specs have changed as much as the outside, but we can’t know for sure.
Original reports suggested a 3.8″ AMOLED display, a decent little 1 Ghz processor under the hood with a 5 MP rear camera with VGA front all running nicely on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This would make the Sol line up as a nice mid-high end offering and should make for a good price too. With dual-core phones slowly becoming the norm, we could see something like this be the new Optimus One as their lower offering but only time will tell.
More Bionic news, we are now seeing the phone officially show up all around parts of Best Buy. From right on their website to a few magazine ads. It’s safe to say it is coming soon but then we already knew that right? We’ve been hearing it for months and months. Best Buy’s September buyers guide is all about the Droid Bionic and they have it front and center.
While we don’t learn anything new here they just rehash what we already know. That this juicy phone will have a 4.3″ qHD display, 4G LTE, a dual-core powerhouse CPU and all that other good stuff we’ve come to love. With more and more ads like this officially outing the specs as well as the September release date it almost feels confirmed, although we still don’t have anything truly official.
The Bionic is now officially also on the Verizon website front page. With that and the recent rumor of a September 8th launch at $299 you poor souls patiently waiting have less than 20 days — if the rumors are true of course. So get excited, cash in that change bucket, or clear out your ashtray of quarters because the time is coming. Sadly we have seen rumors of it launching at $299 while we all were hoping for something a little lower. This is Verizon’s first dual-core 4G LTE phone so I guess we should have all expected to pay a premium. Will you be buying the Bionic? Or holding out for something else?
Sometimes we just can’t get to the phone. It may be that we just don’t want to be bothered, or maybe we didn’t bring our phone along somewhere that it could get ruined. In any case, Amazon’s free app of the day could prove useful to you. Txt Msg Away Message is able to autonomously send a text reply while you’re unavailable. I’ve been using this app for quite some time and have used it plenty during class, as well as while I’m out on the water. The app is ridiculously simple for its level of utility. The initial screen features a text box for your away message, an on/off toggle, and a dropdown box for previously saved away messages.
I must say for $99 crisp dollar bills, the HP TouchPad rocking Android would be a pretty awesome deal. That would be a great price for a tablet and once we get some Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich running on it everyone will be glad they snagged one for $99 dollars. After HP discontinued the TouchPad it went on a firesale and is now in the bargain bin. The specs compare to that of the HTC Sensation with that 1.2 Ghz dual-core Qualcomm processor, but with a 9.7″ 1024×768 IPS display. All that running Android sounds like something I’d be okay with.
An Android port for the TouchPad has already started and is picking up huge traction over the last 24-48 hours. With it now selling for $99 or $149 at HP.com we now have a game of “The Price is Right” and all we need is the Android OS. Over at RootzWiki the project has about 90 pages of interest after a day and a half, they are calling it TouchDroid. While some reports have claimed the hardware was to blame and not the webOS we all are still left wondering. Once we get Android 2.3 Gingerbread, CM7, and eventually Honeycomb running on this thing we’ll really know for sure.
While almost everything that has hit the market as of late has had a few geeks trying to port Android over, the TouchPad is in a much better position because so many have it and that price is just so stellar. I’m sure somewhere there is already a bit of progress on a full port, but the team at RootzWiki has a nice group of four developers and this is only the beginning. I’m sure once a few webOS developers that also love Android get around to talking with them things should start to move along a bit quicker. This wont be an easy task and the devs have plenty of work cut out for them. Be nice, be patient and feel free to head over to RootzWiki and show your support. (Thanks oGsSTC)
$99 dollar Android 3.2 Honeycomb TouchDroid Tablet — Put me down for two!
Straight Talk, the Wal-Mart exclusive TracFone brand known for attracting some of the more value conscious consumers out there, will be offing the Android-based Samsung Galaxy Precedent at under $150 off-contract according to a promotional video. That’s a nice deal coupled with Wal-Mart’s $45 per month plan for unlimited voice, text and data.
The details for this device are mostly unknown besides the generic mention of “multi-tasking, voice-based features and Picute/Video,” however the Precedent’s s appearance may remind you of the Samsung Prevail for both its boxy shape and external microSD located on its side.
You can reserve your very own economically conservative Android by pre-ordering at the Straight Talk website or just sit tight and add it to your next Wal-Mart shopping list.
